  • Self-destruction in a finer form

Nothing to much has been happening on the Music front as of late. There are a few acts that will be flying through Vancouver in the next month or so, and some great movies will be playing as well.

Among the local acts, Kill Rhythum will be playing at Richards on Richards this Friday.
And Oasis will be ripping throug town next month, I'll post the exact dates next week.

This segment is more dedicated to more of top ten list.
The ten song picks based on moods. Or something like it.

    Sunshine, Beaches, and Bonfires:
You can't go wrong with a classic remixed by a drunk thats been there time and time again. This one goes to:
All Summer Long - Kid Rock

    Midnight Oil and Broken Amps:
If you're looking for a decent party you can never fuck it up with AcDc's Back in Black, still to this day hailed as the number one party rock album of all time. However for those younger generation crowds, I would suggest this pick, as it's one of my all time favs now:
    Album: Running Wild
    Artist: Airbourne
Recommended Songs: Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast; Running Wild; and Blackjack.

    Stoned Off Your Rocker:
Now there is only one band in the world today that has actually won the genre label of "Stoner Rock", and thats the Queen's of the Stone Age. Their new album is a great mix of multiple sounds from every which genre, but for this particular title I'm gonna go with:
Songs for the Deaf - QOTSA.

Driving Down the Highway in a High Speed Pursuit, or Trying to Beat the Girl Home so She Doesn't Find the Other Woman's Panties:
    Need I say more than:
    Zeplin III - Led Zeplin

We're gonna finish this segmant on the number 5 spot, and I'll finish the next 5 on the next show.

For Those That Love To Skate, Rebel, Or Just Get Hammered and Break Shit:
For me, there are many punk rock bands, legends in their own right that could steal this spot... but I have to pick one.
Siren Songs For the Counter Culture - Rise Against
This is my personal pick. As This album really sky rocketed the bands popularity and established them as a prominant force to be reckoned with in the punk rock/rebel rock genre. Pennywise's the Fuse made a close second. You could also argue that Bad Religion, and Black Flag could steal this spot as well. Fuck I like them all, But one had to be chosen.

    Till next time all!
And remember, the music ain't too loud, you're just not screaming loud enough.

    Cheers Fuckers

  • Cigarrette's, Vodka, and Napalm

Lock N Loaded is the premier Rock review blog for the heavy hitting talent that Winnipeg has to offer. It is primarily dedicated to the fast rising talent of OCD, but also caters to the other acts that plague the venues of Canada's coldest city at night.

I'm origonally from British Columbia, so I tend to check back with contacts back home and see whats happening on the home front. Vancouver, Langley, Abbotsford, Hope, Chilliwack, Kelowna, Kamloops are a few of the scenes that I will be checking back on and reviewing as well. So if you are from the Okanogan or the Lower Mainland, please feel free to check back frequently for updates.

If any large bands are going to be bringing thedown the house here at HQ or any other city for that matter, it should be posted. If not, let me know.

I'm a huge fan of music and it flows through my vains. I'd smoke the shit outta music if you could keep it lit. New acts are always rising all over Canada, and I try my best to keep up with the endless acts. I like to write reviews on new acts all the time and really let the listeners and the fans know what I think of them. Remember this is just one mans opinion, so feel free to derive one for yourself. Stay origional in this tyranic world.

If you would like to share your thoughts or bands with me that you feel I've never heard or havn't done justice to, please feel free to contact me.

If you can't hear yourself talk over the music, you arn't yelling loud enough, Keep Rockin'.

    Cheers

  • OCD @ the Zoo

The date was April 4th, and it was a Friday. Cold as ever as I walked towards the Zoo entrance in my light black jacket, smoking a joint and getting primed for the show. I give the bouncer my ticket and get stamped, and I think to myself, here we go again!

OCD rocked the joint to the max yet again, in another impressive display of modern hard rock. Andy and the crew never disappoint thats for sure.

One Bullet Resolution kicked off the night with some heavy Nu-Metal riffs that just make you want to scream.
Jeremy King pulled in a heavy throat wrenching scream that closly resembles Killswitch lead Howard Jones. Colin Harris sported some really energetic drum fills, and the metal-alternative quartet really primed the stage for the upcoming acts. The bar was nearly empty when these fellas hit the stage, but coming in from my hometown of Vancouver, the were set to play a great show. And so they did. Great riffs that really make you feel the heartbeat of each song they played; together alongside some strong lyrics and an offset, yet admirable stage presence made me proud to say, "I lived in the same city as those fuckers".

Next up on the bill, Pornocracy. With a name like that, what the fuck are supposed to expect?
Jon hits the stage sporting a killer vintage Metallica T, sleeves pulled up, gnarly 80's style. Rob brings in some riffs on the drums and the band just hits into it. With influences from typical speed metal and hair metal bands of the 80's I was certain of what their sound would be. Turns out I was wrong. This quartet managed to build their own sound around Metallica like speed riffs, Megadeth like vocals, and Pantera like drum playing. Pornocracy is definitely a testament to the old school scene. The bar was more full than not when these rockers hit the stage, yet the floor was empty. This did not deter the spirit at all. Cracking jokes about having and empty drink, leading to a free beer or two, and just overall rocking hard set these young aspiring rockers apart from the herd.
Jon's timing was a tad off during the first act, and some notes were missed but as they began to play longer and longer stylish solos, and shredding some serious guitar ass, the vibe became stronger, and had a bit of clarity to it. What will happen when Hetfiled retires? Or when Mustain calls it quits? Pornocracy will step up to the plate and hit a fucking grand slam! Thats what will fucking happen! Fucking EVile!

Now, the bar is full, every one is drunk and having a great time. OCD sells t-shirts to buy dinner, and we are all ready for the action. I grab my friend from work and we head front and center.

Opening up strong, completely feeding off the energy of the crowd, OCD brought the house down.
Mosh pits, chicks making out right in front of me, a major fucking hootananny! Fuck it if I spelt that wrong. Playing all the old shit, from Risen, to Greenback to Hope. They primed the crowd completely.
Then it hit me, the opening riffs to Godsmacks "Enemy" and im thinking to myself, No Fucking Way! I love this song, and whats more? Andy puts Sully to shame. Then again, they all do. But of course, Godsmack will always have the credit.
Obviously there was a little catch to this song, whoever could correctly guess the song, well... won a T-Shirt. Im glad I bought mine before the show.
Ok enough of the old, lets get down and dirty with the new shit.
This is how it is. Andy pipes up talking about friends and acquaintances, hence the new track. Half way through the song I realize, fucking eh, this will never stop. They are the Fathers of Metal here in Winnipeg, and hundreds of armies a thousand strong could come and disgrace these Manitoba rockers, and every time... they'll fucking cut your head off and throw it to the dogs, because OCD is here to stay.
Killer solos from Brian and Devyn, these guitarists are never weak, and never stray when the world is watching them. Andy, wearing his thousand yard stare behind some killer shades, just got up there singing with that voice that makes you want to punch someone in the face! Believe me, thats a good feeling. There was strong drumming from Todd, as always, and a heavy rocker mentality from Jack. I love it when he gets up front alongside the guitarists and Andy and just rocks out hard.
Their music always makes me feel empowered and feeling good.
The hard work that these 5 guys put into their music speaks volumes.
Andy had once said to me "its like having a second full time job, but if you love it, then you go with it". Couldn't agree more man.

Needless to say, they work hard, they rehearse hard and they play hard. They should rename the band to OFCD. Obsessive Fucking Compulsive Disorder.

Always a pleasure being thrown around the dance floor and giving myself whiplash. Looking forward to the next show!

Thats it for this fan, he needs to put some ice on his neck.

Remember if you can't hear yourself over the music, you ain't yelling loud enough.

    Cheers from J-Rock!

  • International Waters (New Update)

Short and sweet, Lock 'N' Loaded just went international!

There's a review on a UK native, Nancy Black, I hope to do more work with her in the future and break out into other countries as well.

Napoleon of Rock? Has a nice ring to it!

    Cheers from Jay-Rock

  • Independant Insanity - Nancy Black

Well, I always love taking the time to review a good album and share my thoughts. This months review is of Nancy Black, an independent musician hailing from the UK. At the age of 20, she is sporting some serious talent. Compiling songs such as Side by Side, and Falling for You puts her on the right track to success!

Black has an array of inspiration coming from all directions of music as well as her own thoughts on where music should come from; ultimately spawning the motto, "Music is Love, Music is Nancy Black". It's amazing the songs she has written with a female role model like Alanis Morrisette, but shes stuck her feet in the foundation of originality.

Mentioned earlier, Side by Side has an addictive beat that just gets your blood pumping. It's almost as the riffs themselves are injecting heroine via the ear canal. I love it! The lyrics have a beautiful way of sounding childish and yet mature, as the song has a "young again" feel to it.  You can't help but throw a song like this on repeat, memorize every word, then sing it over and over again when you are at work, school, college, wherever. Spread the infection I say.
Love Easy is another track that really demonstrates Nancy's love for those old school infectious beats. When I took the time to really pick apart this song and see the individual parts, I found that I felt... well happy! The baseline is like an Ac/Dc line thats been fused with dance. She really has worked hard on perfecting her music and finding what really portrays her.
Falling For You has a Tegen and Sara feel to it. The broken guitar riffs give it a pop/rock feel, and the lyrics really show some pain.

Nancy Black should have absolutely no problem breaking it into the industry.
With talent, passion, and good looks to boot, this British Lass is here to stay; in the words of Jon Davis of Korn. Watch out Hollywood! We're looking at another invasion, and her name is Nancy Black.

If you'd like to find out more about Nancy Black, check out her official myspace page @ http://www.myspace.com/nancyblackmusic. Check out her videos, her track listing and some new demos! Or just drop in and say hi, just show this aspiring artist your support!

And remember, if you can't hear yourself over the music, you aren't yelling loud enough. Keep on Rockin'

    Cheers from Jay-Rock
